The initial session of the event focused on just that — ensuring quality in engineering education and aligning with international standards. “International recognition plays a vital role in ensuring quality education. Bangladesh’s initiatives in this area will bring long-term benefit for future generations,” Iacona says. Iacona’s presentation, “Sustaining Quality: Robust and Enduring Accreditation Systems, explores key characteristics that make an accreditation body both robust and sustainable over time. The session reflects on how structure, culture, and adaptability shape organizational endurance and trust. The symposium featured technical sessions, presentations on research, discussions and local and international experts sharing their experience.

An Event Essential to the Future

The event started on December 8th with a welcoming speech by the Vice Chairman of BAETE, Prof Dr. S. Reza Chowdury, who emphasized the importance of accreditation and the role it plays in following global standards and elevating engineering education in Bangladesh. National and international guests attended the symposium, including Engr Mohammad Reazul Islam, President of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) and Professor Kai Sang Lock, Chair of the Washington Accord.

“Engineers as Changemakers” was the theme at the 12th International Conference on that took place at in the United Kingdom earlier this week.��

MARRAKECH, Morocco — The , held April 17–18 at the Faculty of Sciences Semlalia, convened educators, policymakers and industry leaders from around the world to explore solutions for strengthening engineering education in resource-constrained environments.

The forum provided a collaborative platform to address shared challenges in teaching, learning and curriculum design. This year was unique as ICTIEE Executive Director, Krishna Vedula, Ph.D., promoted the conference theme: “We are teaching, are they learning?” 91�Թ� Adjunct Accreditation Director M. Kantha Reddy, Ph.D., one of the 91�Թ� representatives at the conference, praised the event’s collaborative atmosphere saying, “This conference aids students, faculty and academic leaders, in transforming engineering education by sharing best practices in terms of what they have been doing from their individual institutions as well as the other pillars of engineering education.”

Taylor attended the forum and was able to see what the students had produced for the showcase. “I’m amazed by how thoughtfully students are approaching complex challenges from multiple perspectives. At one of the student forums, I heard presentations addressing local farming practices in India, safety concerns at bus stops during the evening hours and monitoring the mental health of college students,” she said. “It’s inspiring to be in a space where real-world problems are being critically considered and addressed.”

Through its enduring partnership with IUCEE, 91�Թ� continues to foster a global community of educators and institutions dedicated to improving the quality of engineering education. Vedula conveyed the importance of this partnership, emphasizing the importance of a student outcomes-based approach. “There’s a perfect overlap with 91�Թ�’s mission and what we are doing at the conference,” he explained.

Hosted by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in India’s historic Capital City, New Delhi, Ramesh remarked, “As a first timer, it was a truly memorable experience thanks to the incredible warmth.”

The IEA aims to enhance engineering education and competence worldwide. This mission is carried out through its educational accords, which establish standards, best practices and mutual recognition of accredited engineering and engineering technology programs. The IEA’s history dates back to 1989 with the establishment of the Washington Accord, which focuses on the mutual recognition of programs that lay the educational foundations for engineers. This was followed by the Sydney Accord in 2001 for engineering technologists and the Dublin Accord in 2002 for engineering technicians.
